Ms. Harmony in: The Courage in Care
Community doulas, who offer culturally grounded support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, play a crucial role in improving health outcomes, particularly for marginalized communities. In New Jersey, despite progress in maternal health equity, stark racial disparities persist—Black women and infants face significantly higher mortality rates than their white counterparts. The Courage in Care exhibit celebrates the vital work of doulas through photojournalism and storytelling, highlighting the importance of dignified, culturally sensitive care. The event serves as a call to action to raise awareness, promote trust-based care, and advocate for policies that expand access to doula services across the state.
